First, I would like to sincerely thank Rick Snodgrass (ACM SIGMOD Chair, 1997-2001). Three years ago, he helped shape ACM DiSC, and every year since then, he has contributed to making each issue of DiSC a reality, with his unfailing help and encouragement.

Sincere thanks also go to Tamer Özsu (ACM SIGMOD Chair, 2001-), who has offered much help and guidance during the last few months.

Donald Ichiro Lambe has been the best Production Manager that anyone could hope for. I am deeply indebted to him for his unfailing professionalism, technical wizardry, and dedication.

This year, I would like to welcome to the Editorial Board Claudia Bauzer Medeiros and Krithi Ramamritham. I would also like to express my thanks to all the members of the Editorial Board for their help and support throughout the years.

I am very thankful to Michael Ley, ACM SIGMOD Anthology Editor, DiSC Associate Editor, and DBLP creator and maintainer for his help in many forms, and in particular for allowing us to include copies of the DBLP author entries.

I am grateful to Alberto Mendelzon, ACM SIGMOD Information Director, for his prompt and effective help.

Thanks are due to Maggie Dunham (2000 SIGMOD General Chair) and Leo Fegaras (2000 SIGMOD Local Arrangements Chair) for their support.

DiSC would not have been the comprehensive publication that it has become without the help of many people who obtained permissions from publishers, editors, and authors for all the material that it contains. I would particularly like to acknowledge the people who established the connections to DiSC, including Rick Snodgrass, Meral Ozsoyoglu, Tamer Özsu, Claudia Bauzer Medeiros, Luis Gravano, Divesh Srivastava, and Deborah Cotton at the ACM. An extensive list of all the other people who helped can be found in credits.

ACM SIGMOD DiSC was partially supported by ACM SIGMOD, by the National Science Foundation through grants to the Founding Editor, and by the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Editing DiSC since 1999 has been a truly enriching experience, which has allowed me to interact with all the wonderful and highly capable people mentioned above. I am very happy to introduce Aidong Zhang, the new DiSC Editor, starting in 2002. I wish her all the best and offer my support as Founding Editor in the years to come.

Isabel Cruz
