At the Business Lunch of the SIGMOD 2000 conference in Dallas this past May, the SIGMOD officers and editors gave their yearly status reports. For the benefit of those who couldn't attend or were too busy eating we summarize those reports as part of the ``Chair's Message''; that follows. In terms of SIGMOD Record, I was able to summarize the important events for the year as follows:
In terms of future and on-going plans, I listed the need to continue our emphasis on breadth and quality, enhance the role of the Record in building the database research community, and encourage the publication of early results and visionary papers. Also, as with any paper-oriented publication, we must reassess our role in light of new publications and on-line access. So, if you were busy working on your dessert during my part of the presentation, you are now up to date. For the rest of the reports, please see Rick's message. Also, please read the following important notices.
