There are currently several efforts underway to develop methods for data translation and reorganization. To date, these applications of translation have been tailored to solve a specific translation. In all cases the authors have stated that translation has a more general applicability to problems.
In an attempt to test the claim of general applicability, a data translation effort was undertaken to determine if one of the generalized data translators could be applied to a file structure it was not specifically designed to handle. It was hoped that some measure of productivity could also be made so as to determine if the approach was cost justified.
