Welcome to DiSC 2002!

This is the fourth issue of the ACM SIGMOD Digital Symposium Collection, DiSC. The aim of DiSC is now to become the "most comprehensive and timely source of information on database research". With the help of the new DiSC board, we are able to extend the scope of DiSC from the previous volumes and include full contents of 35 conference proceedings and journals. We are also able to include Sigmod/Pods 2001 keynote speeches by Dr. Gene Myers, Director of Informatics Research, Celera, Genomics: Whole Genome Assembly: Tactical and Strategic Implications, and Dr. Steve Kirsch, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Propel, To the Internet and Beyond: Database Challenges for New Applications.

We hope you will enjoy the material herein and we welcome your comments and suggestions at our DiSC feedback site.
